Animation film artists tell the story of FREITAG – From Truck Till Bag – in completely different ways, with different plots, in different styles and with a different agenda.

And because we did not tell them what to do, it will be interesting to learn how they see what we do. At least that was our intention.

We’ve been telling the same story since 1993, and it just never gets old. What we do at FREITAG is pretty straightforward: Bags, accessories and workwear that’s functional, robust and stylish (we hope). To tell the story of how we do it is more challenging ...

We only made one requirement of our TARP BLANCHE artists: tell this HOW. These are their interpretations:

BEFORE WE MET BY BITO

The truck is to BEFORE WE MET what the train is to Before Sunrise. Or do we mean the bike? Okay, maybe it’s not the best comparison; we just like how similar the titles sound. Anyway, our latest absolutely true FREITAG story tells a poetic love story set in Taipei, its creators’ hometown. It asks whether love can come about as the result of chance, how far fate or destiny play a role, how two people find each other – and how it all works when you’re not cut from the same cloth, but your bags have been cut from the same tarp. Thank you BITO for the touching animation!

#TARPLIFE BY CRAVEFX

The young animation studio CraveFX from Singapore has given us the hero’s journey of a tarp longing for a better future. The eponymous “Tarp” may not have a plan, but it has big dreams and it’s going to keep on trucking till it achieves them. It dreams of a better, more exciting, more glamorous life after its time on the road. Thanks Alif, Berlynn, Chuck, Debbie, Joshua, Khoo, Lai, Muhammed and Tammy.

DUST ROAD RENEGADES BY ACID HOUSE

DUST ROAD RENEGADES is made by Acid House. The small studio, run by Ivan and his wife Pauline, is located in the middle of Manila’s glitter and grime. Their five-year-old son Grey also put his stamp on the film: the characters are based on his drawings. It makes sense that their From Truck To Bag story about the FREITAG production process pays tribute to the Philippine commuter trucks known as jeepneys: after all, they're an integral part of the hot, humid metropolis’s loud, chaotic commuter traffic. Thanks, Ivan and Acid House!

MADE FOR/FROM EACH OTHER BY VIK & NES

Victoria Jardine and Ines Pagniez are a Stuttgart- and London-based animation collective. They first met at secondary school in France with braces on their teeth and Doc Martens on their feet. Then, a few years later, they both studied animation direction at SUPINFOCOM. And they are the very first artists whose “about” segment we simply copied and pasted because it’s so cute. More cuteness to follow.
